Steering and AWD on the 2019 Nissan Altima
There are plenty of great features that will be arriving on the all-new 2019 Nissan Altima. We have written about several of them already, including technology like advanced ProPilot Assist and more. However, if you have asked yourself “Does the 2019 Nissan Altima have all-wheel drive?” we have an answer! The previous generation Altima was not available with this feature, but the 2019 model will offer this advantage.

Does the 2019 Nissan Altima have all-wheel drive?
For the first time, all models of the 2019 Nissan Altima will be available with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. This will make plenty of drivers happy, especially those who have to deal with uncertain weather conditions and back roads. As of writing, we believe that AWD will be available only with the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, and not the other powertrain option on the 2019 Nissan Altima.
How does AWD on the 2019 Altima work?
All-wheel drive on the 2019 Nissan Altima will use an advanced torque split strategy to direct torque either the front wheels only, or to split power evenly between the front and rear wheels when conditions require it. This system will also leverage Hill Start Assist and the brake limited slip differential to offer even more confident driving.
“When we look at how Altima is going to shake up the segment, all-wheel drive is a key element. Altima will be the only one to offer it of the top three best-selling midsize sedans,” said José Muñoz, chief performance officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, in a 2019 Altima press release. “The lack of available all-wheel drive has also been a factor in buyers who prefer sedans switching to compact SUVs.”
Other Driving Enhancements on the 2019 Altima
The all-new Altima will also benefit from new monotube rear shocks, a reinforced suspension, an upgraded dual-pinion electric power steering system, and other valuable systems like Intelligent Ride Control, Intelligent Trace Control, and Vehicle Dynamics Control.
