What is Rear Door Alert (RDA)?
Two Nissan engineers developed the idea of RDA after accidentally leaving a pan of lasagna in a car overnight, coming back the following morning, and not enjoying the lingering odor for days to come. If only there would have been a better way to remember it was back there. Now, with RDA, the future of backseat cargo has arrived.
How Does RDA Work?
The 2018 Nissan Pathfinder equipped with RDA will remember the patterns of your car doors opening and closing, reacting when necessary. For instance, if you open and close at least one of the back doors of the Pathfinder before driving somewhere, arrive at your destination, turn off the car, and then begin to walk away from it without opening and closing at least or more of those doors, the RDA system will notice this and activate.
Does RDA Have More Than One Setting?
The activation of the RDA system can be customized to your liking, as it can announce itself silently or audibly. When configuring the RDA in the settings menu of the Pathfinder, you can choose whether you want the RDA to activate as a silent notification on the instrument panel, a series of distinctive horn honks, or both. As if that wasn’t enough, the RDA system can be disabled either temporarily or permanently – whatever bests fits your schedule, lifestyle, etc.
