What is a lube, oil, and filter change?

An oil change is one of the most well-known automotive maintenance procedures. It must be done on a regular basis to remove old oil, because as time passes oil breaks down, gets dirty, and is unable to perform its key task of lubricating the engine and associated parts. Lacking fresh oil in your car can lead to serious issues.

A lube job involves greasing up key parts of your vehicle like the steering system, suspension system, and drive train. This keeps them sliding smoothly, and prevents them from rubbing together and wearing each other down. Like the other processes, this should be done at the times recommended by your manufacturer, which can be found in your owner’s manual. If you’ve lost your physical copy, don’t fret; these days, the owner’s manual is almost always available online via a simple Google search.

Finally, filters are also important to routinely change. There are four main filters in a car: the cabin, oil, fuel, and air filters. These gizmos enable various important substances to flow in and out of your machine while catching (ie, filtering) any impurities. Of course, the filters themselves get all gummed up when enough impurities gather, so it’s important to change them to keep everything flowing and filtering smoothly.
